There’s nothing very character-forming about holidaying onboard a smart, three cabin ‘Calypso’ or four cabin ‘Salsa’, two of the new boats destined this year (2005) for the sun-drenched lakes, rivers and canals of Europe where Crown Blue Line reigns supreme.
In boats, luxury means space, so the Salsa and Calypso use their lovely smooth deck areas to create plenty of places for sitting out talking, spread-eagling and soaking up the sun, reeling in fish for lunch, reading or watching the world go by - as well as lots of room for gathering on the bridge deck for alfresco dining.
Inside, a feeling of light, airy spaciousness spreads through a bright, open-plan saloon and galley, with double cabins opening off at the rear, more double cabins opening off centrally, and with another double opening from the saloon settee if there’s a full complement onboard.
“Yes there’s adventure in taking to the water,” said marketing manager Alexandra Brice, “and exploring at your own pace is certainly part of the pleasure of cruising, but our customers enjoy the finer things in life and onboard this definitely includes sockets for games or computers, room in the fridge to chill the Sauvignon, comfortable beds, efficient showers and, of course, plenty of space!”
Decades of designing and building boats for inland waterways means Crown Blue Line can exploit the best configurations, mouldings and finishes to achieve the spacious, modern, maintenance-free comfort that typifies its boats, and efficient alternators and generous banks of batteries help keep the showers hot and the drinks cold.
Add in the perfectly-sized props, the bow-thruster and easy steering and engine controls and there’s no difficulty in handling even the biggest of Crown Blue Line’s fleet.
Ten of the new Salsa design and over 30 of the Calypso will be cruising in France this year, on waterways which include the Canal du Midi, the Camargue, Aquitaine, Burgundy and Charente.
Crown Blue Line is part of First Choice Inland Waterways, the largest inland waterways group in the world. For more information please visit www.crownblueline.com or call 0870 160 5635.
