Throughout August, Crown Blue Line is offering 20% off all self-drive cruisers booked from Port Cassafieres or Castelnaudary on the Canal du Midi in the South of France, and is waiving the one-way charge for anyone asking to start at one base and finish at the other, to enjoy more of Rick Stein’s route in his French Odyssey.
A treat for lovers of good French cooking, the Canal du Midi runs by lots of wonderful waterside restaurants on its way to the Med – making it a perfect way to tour the region onboard a luxury, wide-beamed canal cruiser from Crown Blue Line, sampling fresh caught fish and local wines, and dishes such as Cassoulet made from white beans, pork and goose, sarladaise potatoes fried in duck fat with garlic and parsley, snails Languedoc style, entrecôte bordelaise and Bouillabaisse.
A World Heritage Site, the Canal du Midi offers fabulous views as it passes through pretty villages, past the fairytale walled city of Carcassonne, and through acres of vineyards and unspoilt countryside on its way to the golden beaches of the Med.
Requiring no previous boating experience, Crown Blue Line’s boats sleep from four to ten and the 20% August discount knocks, for example, £467 off one week’s hire of a luxury Crown Class ‘Classique’ – reducing the price to £1868 (£233.50 per person).
The ‘Classique’ sleeps eight in four double/ twin cabins, two bathrooms, a spacious saloon and large galley, plus upper sun deck area with table and chairs for alfresco dining. Travel to and from Castelnaudary or Port Cassafieres is not included but Ryanair operates low cost flights to Carcassonne or to Montpellier and Crown Blue Line can arrange transfers.
